PDP participates in Kirby Medical Center’s annual Row-A-Thon

Each year, the Prairie Dragon Paddlers look forward to participating in a fundraising event hosted by one of their sponsors, Kirby Medical Center in Monticello.

Because of pandemic restrictions, last fall’s One Morning One Mission Row-A-Thon on Oct. 24 was held outside for the first time in the event’s history.

People from Piatt County and beyond took to rowing machines in teams to raise money and awareness for breast cancer research and patient support.

PDP Vice President Miriam Garrett, who is also a physical therapist at Kirby Medical Center, spoke with a local news reporter from WAND-TV for a story about the event.

“We had a great time,” she said. “The Kirby teams had fire pits going, the sun came out and the rowing kept us warm. PDP had eight participants, including three who were members that have never been in the boat yet! Bravo! They will love it on the water.”
